Lived south of Thomas Hill and THEN moved to Pembroke, Bryan Co. GA.
Thomas Hill Cemetery is/was on Ft. Stewart, GA. Rev. John Watts performed the
marriage ceremony in Taylors Creek.

"Aunt Bessie" never married; her life was one of service and devotion to her family and others. She was never happier than when she was needed to help some of her relatives or friends and was always a welcome member of the Olmstead family, with whom she made her home. In 1920 census for Duval County, Jacksonville FL - we find her living with her niece Mary E. Olmstead, 24 and single. Aunt Bessie is shown as age 47, single and b. Hendry, run over and killed instantly by a moving car on the railroad corssing. He was about ten years old. "160. He was buried 3 in Taylors Creek Cem,Ft Stewart,Lib Co Ga. Alfred was employed as Medical Doctor.
He was a graduate of the Medical College of GA, Augusta; he began his practice of medicine in Lake City FL (one year) and then returned to Liberty Co GA. He actively practiced medicine until he was about 90 years old...he served in the Civil War as a Captain of Co C (Bulloch Troop) 2nd Battalion GA Cav, Confed Army..he had to resign in May, 1862 due to ill health. He practiced for a short time in Blackshear GA (~1906) before returning to Liberty Co. Pertaining to Civil War - interesting to note some of the folks who served under him: Ansel Alderman, Augustus LANIER, Joshua LANIER, PARRISH, GROOVER, etc. - rhg 1870 census for Liberty Co GA; subdivision 178, page 176; household 132/132 shows Alfred with wife, Alethea, and all children born prior to 1870 census through Sidney (Robt. Sidney). Shown as a farmer $486. all born GA.

Shows living with brother, Enoch, in 1920 census Chatham Co, Savannah GA, along with another sister (illeg) - we are assuming Sara Amanda. Their ages are 10 yrs OFF! (grin) Shame, shame. They were clearly in their forties but told the census taker that they were in their 30s. Both sisters were listed as "single". Heh. - rhg Well, the gals are sticking to their stories - 10 years later - they are STILL ten years off. (grin) and both still single. Dressmaning at home is listed as their occupation. What seems to be conflicting data. I believe we have a marriage license obtained on 18 Dec 1852 in one county and the
marriage took place in another. - rhg 1870 census brings more confusion. In 1870 census for Liberty Co GA; P O McIntosh; sub-division 179; page 186; household 135/131. Shows him as a timber cutter and his wife as "Patience, 40 b. GA" - hmm.. second wife? - rhgGeorge married 1 Faithy Ann McGillis daughter of Terrence McGillis and Providence Shuman on 23 Dec 1852 in Bryan County,Ga. Faithy was born about 1835.
