I saw a copy of her death certificate... she died in her home in Wilmington and was 84 years old... a widow... that her father was Alexander Hendry of Pender County, and her mother was Sarah Matthis of Sampson Co... buried in Ivanhoe Co, N.C. (where Black River Chapel is located). Informant... was G. C. McIntire of Wilmington, NC. probably... aon. Buried beside her husband in the Black River Chapel Graveyard... double headstone:

Informant, G. C. McIntire (Gaston Calhoun) was an attorney at the time of Lizzie's death. He practiced law in Wilmington NC; this data comes from his grandson, Jim MCIntire. Apparently, G. C. was the first to change the "Y" ro "I" in his surname. - rhg

Porter-Carroll has this child as "Sarah Cassandra". Online gedcoms mentioning her have her birthplace as Sampson Co NC. I'm not sure if White Oak Plantation was considered Sampson Co then. We've seen how some of the county lines wiggle over time. - rhg

Death date and burial locale from S. E. (Susan Shaw Ellis) Van Apekloom <> - data from marker at the church. "Bannerman Cem on the South River approx. 3 mi. s.w." - possibly the lost cemetery. Checking on this. - rhg The marker was erected by her cousin who was the Historian Emeritus of NC (now deceased) and lists Charles McGregor Bannerman, George, Georgia Washington, Pheobe, Colin Shaw, W. I. and Sarah as all in the Bannerman cemetery." She has a photo of the marker.. We hope to get a copy of that photo. - rhg

Sarah married Washington Irving Shaw Sr. son of Rev. Colin Shaw and Phoebe Williams Bannerman on 1 Dec 1869 in her mother's home. Washington was born about 1845.

He was a teacher for 35 years, son of the Rev. Colin Shaw, who was ordained at Black River Chapel.(Porter-Carroll book). Apparently, Sarah Cassandra must have died during or shortly after the birth of her only child, Leila. Her
husband married twice more after her death. - rhg

(Porter-Carroll) Assumed they lived in or near Clinton, for when her mother died, she was buried in the Royal Lot in Clinton Cem. Author's mother said she was called Aunt Katie and they had one child. - rhg

Ellen married Hardy E. Royal on 16 Feb 1881. Hardy was born about 1850.

Promotion: musician 25 Dec 1862 and then transferred to Field & Staff. (Source: N. C. Troops 1861-1865, A Roster) Among other details, he was a POW 4 Jul 1863 in Souther Mountain, MD and exchanged 18 Feb 1865; paroled 1 May 1865 Greensboro NC. - rhg

Middle name for Robinson provided by Porter-Carroll book. Also, other Robinson data; captain in Co A., 61st Reg. of Confederate Army. Was wounded, taken prisoner at Fort Delaware in June or July 1865. In 1871, he was appointed Sheriff of Sampson Co NC by the County Commissioners. 89. John Robert "Bob" Hendry (Alexander "Sandy" , Alexander , Alexander , Progenitor ) was born on 28 May 1858 in White Oak Plantation,NC. He died on 1 Dec 1943.

Mary Ellis' source supplied most of the data on the siblings, etc. of John Robert Henry/Hendry. States that John Robert lived in Pampa, TEXAS. From "Memory Cups of Panhandle Pioneers" by Millie Jones Porter: On John R. Henry of Gray Co TX.... that they had four children but only one lived; they raised another child as their own.
On his interview, John stated that he was b. in NC, lived in Miss. for 3 years, and then came to Colorado City TX in 1883, and worked for Joe Goode, a noted outlaw, rounding up horses he had alledgedly won, etc. It took him to Mexico , Round Mountain, Nueces River. Came to Wheeler Co with Tom Hanie. His place was on Elm Creek in Collinsworth Co. Then he went to Mobeetie. First job was hauling rock to build a wall around Frank Clampitt's livery barn. 1890, married; lived on the plains until they moved house and all, to Miami. They moved back and rebuilt some years later, then moved to McLean, then Pampa in 1909. - rhg

        Clinton married Fannie Fern. Fannie was born about 1890.

Married Lawrence McMurtry - lives in San Antonio TX and has
a son in the aviation corps in Calif.

She was born on the land settled by her ancestors, located in a part of New Hanover Co that later (1875) became Pender Co NC. White Oak Plantation was a working farm containing 3,447 acres. She got her nickname in honor of the sweetheart of her brother, James A. who was killed in the Civil War. Probably lived her first 23 years on White Oak Plantation. - Porter-Carroll.

Jane married James Smith Bizzell son of Dr. Henry Arthur Bizzell and Celestial Price Robinson on 18 Dec 1883. James was born on 4 Aug 1855. He died in 1912 in Tampa,Fl.

From Porter-Carroll book: 1906, James took his family from NC to Arizona for his health; after a year, returned to Goldsboro NC. He went to Fla. alone.

Jane married James Kerr son of Daniel Kerr Jr. and Elizabeth Kelso Murphy in 1842. James was born on 10 Mar 1800. He died on 4 Oct 1872.

Kerr Family History by Annie Belle Kerr Culbreath reveals: "He was an attendant at his cousin Catherine Henry's wedding when she married Charles Stevens and waited to marry their daughter, Jane Ellen." Inherited "Punch Bowl" from his father who built the home. There was a fire and it burned to the ground. 1931. He purchased Spring Hill from his brother, John Kerr; his mother and sister, Katie, lived with him. A ruling elder, he helped build Black River Chapel. Member of NC Legislature ca 1854. - rhg Not sure, but we believe that James Kerr is the James E. Kerr who graduated the Univerity of North Carolina in 1829. - rhg
