Columbus B. Hendry [Parents] was born in 1853 in MS. He died in 1886 in Corrigan TX. He married 1 Mary Elizabeth Warren on 11 Jan 1877 in Polk Co TX.

Another family source claims his birthdate as 1845. Census (1880 Polk Co) shows him as age 26, so the 1853 year seems more plausible. Shows him b. MS/MS/MS; farm laborer. Household/Family No: 207/214, Dist. 70, image 22 (Ancestry.com).
Columbus' father may have been Joseph Hendry b. 1814. Came from other family source. We know that he is the son of James B. Hendry. Jas. and Jos. looks so alike when handwritten. - rhg

From Norma in Texas, cousin to Ron Hendry: Columbus died of 33 yrs of age from (various stories), among which was they he drowned or was frozen to death when agreed to ferry a gentleman across swollen Piney Creek during a flooding just prior to blizzard. The $5. gold piece, his payment, was still on his person when he fround the next day, frozen stiff in a sitting position, near his make-shift raft or skiff. Oral history claims he was buried in a sitting position at Union Springs Cem., Polk Co TX, with no tombstone. His father, James B. never acknowledged his son's death and would not indentify the body. A large stone, so the tale goes, was put on head of his grave. Ron Hendry, a descendant of this line in Texas, could not locate it. Nell Maxey's mother attended the funeral. - rhg

James B. Hendry [Parents] was born in 1810 in MS. He died in 1890 in Corrigan,Polk Co TX. He was buried in Union Springs Cem.,Corrigan,Polk Co TX. He married Ritty Ann Grimes in 1841. James was counted in a census in 1880 in Polk Co. Texas.
Other marriages:Bright, Anna M.1880 Polk Co. census, Texas has both his parents to be born in South Carolina. Married to Ritty Ann Grimes 1841. Other family sources claim father was b. NC; mother was b. in SC. Census indicates he was b. 1815 or 35 at the 1850 census.- rhg Most family believes that all but the last child was born in MS. - rhg
James had 14 children; including 4 sets of twins! We have been unable to find Ritty Ann and James' marriage data,
and we did find a James B. Hendry married to Anna M. Bright in 1844 Rankin Co MS (where he was living at the time).
We had, at first, thought that Ritty died with the birth (or shortly after) of the first or second child, and James B.
remarrying; however, Ritty Ann is buried in Polk Co and in 1881. Still working on this. It should be noted that also
in the 1850 Rankin Co MS census are the GRIMES family - living right next door! (grin)Abs from Texas Land Recs: 759
The year following a marriage to Anne Bright (1844) - a Jane Henry also married in Rankin Co MS to a Drurea
GILBERT on 16 Dec 1845. Sister? We are putting her in the database in a *sister position* to remember the possibility as we go for docs, etc. - rhgWe were originally told that James B. was born 1810; however, he is listed in the 1850 Rankin Co MS as 35 and born in TN. ACK! His wife is listed as Henrietta (Ritty a nickname?) age 26 in 1850 and b. LA. Also, from that census, we learned that an additional child, WILEY, age 10 in 1850, existed. Heh. - rhg
