About Us ...
Over 8 years ago, a few Hendry researchers started working together on the HENDRY surname (and variant spellings) regardless of whether they were related - one-name study, so to speak. The concept worked better when the data was freely shared with others. Our mission is still the same.
Over time, the accumulative data built bridges where brick walls once existed, and many have enjoyed their newly found heritage.
Then, the inevitable happened - a few began harvesting, plagiarizing, and/or personally profiting from the thousands of volunteer hours necessary to amass such a collection. What's worse, many of our "theories" (stated as such in original form) was "copied" and published elsewhere as "fact" - seriously jeopardizing the entire project. What to do?
The first step was to create the legal entity: HENDRY FAMILY ASSOCIATION. To ensure/secure the association's fiscal health, legal council and sufficient funds were pledged.
Then, we set about to protect much of the copyrightable data in the collection - restricting access of "the general public." Access is still open to most, but the required registration will help to assure that the known harvesters will not be admitted. This secured website is an important part of the solution.
